About KSBB

The Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering (KSBB) was established in 1984 to support the research community of biotechnology and to provide services to members for collaborative research. KSBB is a nonprofit professional association serves as a leading society and a professional home for biotechnology students, academics, and professionals.

In response to a rapid growth of R&D and businesses in biotechnology in Korea, the needs for a platform to provide cutting-edge knowledge, promote collaboration between academics and industries, and conduct peer review system for research accomplishments became far important. Since 1984, KSBB has expanded to be one of the largest and most preeminent academic societies in the field of biotechnology in Korea. KSBB has grown to over 8,000 members, with 8 KSBB-affiliated special study groups and 10 regional branches countrywide.

The primary aim of KSBB is to promote research activities of biotechnology in Korea, and to provide members with a high profile forum for the exchange of ideas and information for further development. The KSBB hosts various domestic and international symposia and meetings, each year.

The Society also publishes two scientific journals in biotechnology; Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering (BBE) and Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering Journal (KSBB Journal). These journals are accessible online to all members as a membership benefit. Furthermore, KSBB publishes BT News (twice a year), and various other publications.

As a leading biotechnology society in Korea, KSBB also aims to serve not only as a domestic platform but also in partnering with international academic societies in providing learning opportunities in cutting-edge research trends and international collaborations.

The KSBB strives to support members and groups through the following activities which cover academics, research institutes and industries in biotechnology.
To promote collaborative research and exchange of research output of biotechnology R&D
To encourage academic and industrial co-operation for knowledge transfer and commercialization
To organize and support domestic and international conferences, symposiums, workshops and educational training schemes
To operate editorial board for publication of journals, newsletter, and proceedings
To counsel and propose national biotechnology policy and strategies
To promote international collaboration and partnership in biotechnology area
