BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology

The BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology is the largest international industrial biotechnology event attracting 1,000 attendees. The goal for the conference is to bring together business, academia and government to share knowledge, build bridges and to develop new value chains that integrate agriculture, chemistry and biotechnology.
Programing at the BIO World Congress is designed for attendees to gain a deeper understanding of the critical issues facing the industry such as climate change, sustainability, new sources of fuel, financing, and policy. Programming includes Plenary Sessions, Breakout Sessions, Company and Technical Presentations, Workshops, Poster Presentations, and GreenTech Investor Sessions.
The breakout programming includes 28 sessions in 7 tracks which address the latest in Renewable Chemicals and Biobased Products; Specialty Food Ingredients, Flavors and Fragrances; Synthetic Biology and Gene Editing; Growing Global Biobased Markets; Agricultural Crop Technologies and Biomass Supply; Advanced Biofuels and Biorefinery Platforms; and Algae Production Technologies.
New to the conference in 2018, Company and Technical Presentations are short yet detailed, fast moving and concise presentations given by a senior level executive or an academician who is an expert in the field of industrial biotechnology. Presentations can showcase technology development, process improvements, product pipeline, R&D activities, technology transfer opportunities, business objectives, building partnerships, and potential investment goals.
The GreenTech Investor Sessions provide a forum for entrepreneurs, innovators, investors and financiers to discuss novel technologies, investments, partnerships, and capital raising opportunities. Innovative companies participate in the sessions based on breakthrough clean technologies, bio-based consumer product strategies, and extensive intellectual property coverage. The event brings together the unique opportunity for senior industrial biotechnology executives to engage in discussions with savvy private and institutional investors to shape the future for clean industrial biotechnology.
In addition to programming, BIO hosts unique business partnering functions which provides the opportunity to build and grow the industrial biotechnology emerging sector through the BIO One-on-One Partnering™ System, which is considered the hub where the initiations of new business relationships are discussed, partnerships are formed, and transformational deals are sealed. 2017 was a record breaking year for partnering as the BIO World Congress hosted 2,130 BIO One-on-One Partnering™ meetings, representing a 9% increase from 2016.
The BIO World Congress hosts an Exhibition Hall showcasing over 45 companies & organizations in over 5,700 square feet of floor space.
Three awards are given out annually during the BIO World Congress. The George Washington Carver Award for Innovation in Industrial Biotechnology and Agriculture recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions in the field of industrial biotechnology and its application in biological engineering, environmental science, biorefining and biobased products (2017: Jeff Broin, Chairman & CEO, POET). The Rosalind Franklin Award for Leadership in Industrial Biotechnology and Agriculture honors a pioneering woman in the industrial biotechnology sector who has made significant contributions to the advancement of the biobased economy and biotech innovation (2017: Vonnie Estes). The BIO Leadership and Legacy Award in Industrial Biotechnology and Agriculture recognizes and honors an individual who has dedicated a significant portion of their career to growing the biobased economy and industrial biotechnology sector (2017: Dr. Gord Surgeoner, Ontario Agri-Food Technologies).
