  • Research Trends and Prospects of the Synthetic Biology Industry

    Dr. Bong Hyun Sung

Research Trends and Prospects of the Synthetic Biology Industry Dr. Bong Hyun Sung
Instruction Synthetic biology creates and utilizes living organisms with new functions that go beyond the limitations of existing organisms in order to solve the problems faced by mankind (population growth, resource depletion, climate change, etc.). It is studied not only for the production of novel organisms, but also for various fields such as understanding and utilization of organisms, bioparts and genome synthesis, and integration with NT and IT technology. It is being applied to environment-friendly materials, energy production, and new concept drug development. Recently, the developed countries are intensively supporting synthetic biology as one of the innovative technologies to be responsible for the future of the country. And large-scale investments are being made in synthetic biology-related companies. In this symposium, research trends and future strategies of the synthetic biology industry will be discussed with Ginkgo Bioworks, CJ, Bioneer, Celemics, and Genofocus, leading synthetic biology companies in the USA and Korea.
  • Bioprocessing for Biopharm Industry: Emerging Technologies and Process Intensification

    Prof. Eun Kyu Lee

Bioprocessing for Biopharm Industry: Emerging Technologies and Process Intensification Prof. Eun Kyu Lee
Instruction As the biopharm industry, especially therapeutic monoclonal antibody industry, becomes mature with pipelines of biosimilars and various other formats such as ADCs, bioprocessing technologies play a crucial role for improving product quality and reducing COGS. To this end, the industry is eager to adopt emerging bioprocessing technologies and embrace process intensification concept. In this session, we invite technical specialists from world-class technology solution companies to introduce the emerging technologies such as single-use technologies, continuous bioprocessing, and new Protein A chromatography. Also invited are the specialists from MAb manufacturing as well as process development organizations to discuss how they try to accommodate these for process intensification. This session will shed a light on how the biopharm industry leads the way to the next era of bioprocessing technologies.
  • Current and Future Aspects of Industrializing Medical Devices in Korea

    Prof. Jonghoon Choi

Current and Future Aspects of Industrializing Medical Devices in Korea Prof. Jonghoon Cho
Instruction The medical device market in Korea is still weak compared to other countries despite its excellent research and research results. In this session, we will discuss the future of Korea in past, present and future medical device market. To this end, we would like to hear about the history of licensing and the success and the fail stories from a speaker of the Korean FDA. The representative of a consulting firm that has the role of connecting the government and the industry would also discuss what is the important point. The future direction of the Korean medical device market would be discussed with speakers from industry. This session will be a Plenary Lecture continued session with the head of the US FDA's Medical Device Center, who will also join the panel discussion after the presentations. Through this session, we hope that the future medical device industry of Korea will can move forward.
